The award consists of a framed certificate along with an ornamental medal and bar, which are to be worn as unofficial honours.

In cases where an officer, who has previously received the Valour Medal, demonstrates exceptional bravery in perilous circumstances once again, a silver bar will be added to their existing Valour Medal.
